Victory Day in Russia 2009
When you're in Moscow, each Victory Day in Russia is pretty much the same. Parade, shows, speeches, more shows, more speeches, etc,etc,etc...
I want to show you something special. Instead of posting a YouTube Moscow parade video, let me show you how Victory Day is celebrated in Moscow region.
Today we're going to the city of Chekhov which is about 60 kilometers from Moscow. Great views, lots of space - and a wonderful name. Yes, yes, it was named after the famous writer!
Let's see how they celebrate the Victory Day. Sure, it's not as big and glamorous as Moscow - but it's got its own special charm.
Ready? Steady? Let's go!

The parade begins any second now. Entire Chekhov is here - men, women, kids and of course - veterans, all waiting patiently.

It's finally begun. The waving banner makes me feel so proud!

Here go the officers. Don't you just love the Russian uniform?

And here are the soldiers. Their uniform is simpler - but let's not forget it was them who fought the War - and won it.

A close-up on the soldiers led by the officer. A captain, if I'm not mistaken. Note he's got two medals!

The veterans are walking by. Thanks to them, I'm writing this page. Heck, thanks to them I even exist!

This looks so American! I'm not so sure why they brought the girls, but never mind - they look great in their uniform!

Beautiful wreaths surround Chekhov's memorials.

Yep, that's a real tank. This one can't go anywhere, but it were these monsters who broke the Nazis spine.

Soldiers laying wreath to another memorial...

...followed shortly by local politicians.

Dedicated to all people of Chekhov who fought and died in The Great Patriotic War.

Chekhov's mayor, archpriest and veterans walking along.

Mayor surrounded by veterans, strolling around slowly.

Chekhov's archpriest is giving the speech in memory of the fallen.

A typical Russian cop, guarding the Victory Day in Russia.

This one is a real Russian field kitchen. Care to taste some porridge?

The cooks are posing for us.

Russian soldier sending his greetings. See you in Chekhov!
