Transaero - Russia's major airline

"Transaero" is one of Russia's biggest airlines. It began in 1991 as a small charter airline. Back then, it did not have its own planes - they were all leased from "Aeroflot".

The company bought its first plane only in 1992.

In 1993, the company leased two "Boeing-737". Thus, it became the first Russian airline to use foreign planes.

Then, the company made a quantum leap. In 1998, it was the second cin the world to purchase the newest "Boeing-737-700" airplane!

Who could have thought that only 7 years ago it did not own a single airliner!

Alas, the company's most successful year turned out to be its worst one as well.

Crisis hit Russian economy. The corporation suffered a terrible setback. It cut down its fleet to one third, and took drastic measures to survive.

Full recovery came only in 2003. Since then, the company was developing rapidly.

If you come from Europe, consider flying this Russian airline. It's much cheaper than the competition. In fact, a direct flight to Moscow will usually cost you less than the indirect one!

The service is fine, but don't expect too much. You will get a meal, a seat and a duty-free cart. TV and radio are usually available. That's not luxurious, but what else do you need in a short flight?

Of course, you can always buy a business-class ticket to get a higher level of service.

There may be some minor problems. The stewardesses' English is not always good, there may be slight delays, etc. Nothing serious.

I'm sure you would agree it's not the reason to overpay for a ticket.

Worried about a technical condition of the airplanes?

Don't be.

These days, the company is serving 85 destinations.

It operates modern, recently purchased "Boeing" airliners. I remember there were "Airbus" liners as well.

This long-haul fleet meets all of the aviation requirements. It's perfectly safe to fly.
