Sometimes when things get really out of hand, you need to get to hospital. Let's hope it never happens, but think of it anyway. Can't be too prepared, right?
Public Moscow hospitals are...well...not good. Doctors are fine, some of them are real pros, but when you look at the bigger picture - there's nothing but bureaucracy, lack of everything and corruption.

Even if you need to make few basic tests - this will take ages. And believe me, you don't want to find out the wonders of Russian queues!
On the other hand, we have plenty of private medical centers scattered all around the city. Some are expensive, others are cheaper, but all of them are much better than the state-owned nightmare.
Even though they are good compared to public hospitals - doesn't mean you don't have to choose carefully. The service can vary greatly depending on the clinic, and prices differ as well.
Personally, I wouldn't recommend "Mera-Med". I was there once. Cost me a fortune and couple of hours to do a test - and "Mera-Med"'s fancy lobby wasn't exactly an excuse for that!
I guess one of Moscow Russia facts is that expensive isn't always good!

If you need to make a complicated test - there's no better place than "Hospital #1". located at 10, Starovolynskaia st. This place is Soviet - better don't go there without local guide - but it has all the equipment you could possibly imagine. Plus, it's really cheap!
Ok, so how can you be on the safe side?
The answer's simple - get a good travel insurance! Check with your agent what exactly is included. Good insurance company will have an agreement with private clinic - they'll never send you to wander in grim hallways of public hospital!
Ambulance service is very important. As you may guess, state-owned one really sucks, so you need a backup plan.
Some of the private clinics have their own units, well equipped, staffed and ready to help 24 hours a day. If you get this kind of insurance - rest assured you'll get the best and quickest service there is.
It may cost you more (and it probably will), but health is not something to save upon...
..although I'm sure you're gonna be juuuust fine!
